Scrap Pricing for May 2025
When a customer calls to scrap out their vehicle, the price may vary from month to month. That price is a combination of factors. Young’s Auto Parts & Recycling does not own a scale for vehicles; however, the weight is very important. So, what do we base our offers on?
Primarily we take the price that OMNI SOURCE is offering for the month then consider the condition, year of the individual vehicle. It isn’t a black and white formula.
This month, Omni Source is stating that scrap is priced at $195/ton. The year DOES matter, why? I have been argued with over this. If the vehicle is older than 12 years, then we factor the weight of the vehicle more heavily than the condition. A newer vehicle may be worth more due to its condition, the weight value may not be the primary factor. For an example, if a vehicle that has so much rust on it that I would need a tetanus shot just looking at the thing, it would not be worth as much no matter the year.
We DO try and keep some of those vehicles that are no longer manufactured but may still be kept on the road. If you have a Saturn, Mercury, etc. We are interested!
Classics and Antiques are a whole different ball of wax. Those don’t have the same factors, at all. We will consider those on a case-by-case basis.
With any vehicle that an offer has been accepted, there will always be complementary pick up as long as it can be put on our trailer. We will never offer you a price for a vehicle and then turn around and charge you to pick the vehicle up.
